I create paintings and drawings that induce the viewer to search for environments within the image. In one series of drawings titled Neither Here Nor There much of the composition is intuitively built through initial random brush strokes. From these brush strokes I find and create spaces and shelters using colored pencil, pastel and watercolor. I interpret these as refuges that I constantly find myself searching for in my everyday life. These nooks and corners of space offer a sense of security within a greater chaotic realm of existence.
