Initially this was to be a representational illustration of a crow. However, in layering the blues, turquoise, and purples I got carried away by the color pattern. The result became more elaborate through some struggle and initial reluctance, but I'm glad I didn't walk away.
The crow has become a bird of some interest to me both for its social nature and intelligence. For example, were you aware that they are known to drop hard shelled nuts on the road and then wait for passing cars to crack them? That blew my mind. You can find more fun facts on crows here.
