It's been a while since I last posted but I'm back at it. Inspired by the Mongolian Ger shelter today and our innate instinct to create a home.

Trying out a self portrait with patterns for the first time. One element led to another without any preconceived idea. Looking forward to pushing this further.

I started off by thinking of an MTA illustration by artist Marcos Chin. I've seen it on the train a bunch of times and I really enjoy it. You can check it out here. His use of lines to define all of the characters' contours is lovely and I wanted to play with that idea. But then I started listening to Radiolab and a story on the fight to conserve a bird called the Kirtland’s warbler and at some point I evidently thought of "The Red Balloon." There's also some 80's rock hairdo going on here. I went with it all.
Read MoreI've been reading Haruki Murakami's new book, "Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage" and this style of drawing came to mind. The feet maybe came to be because I've been running a lot- not sure. This was a fun drawing to get things going again.

It's been moving to see more and more people both in Mexico and Mexicans in other parts of the world protest what's been going on in Mexico for the past many years. All of this has also put into perspective my own family's reasons for moving to the states and what life could have been like for my sister and I should we have stayed. My hope is that we will finally come through with a more transparent government.

From thinking of the new Morbid Anatomy Museum in Brooklyn, I remembered visiting the Bone Church in Kutná Hora when I was in college. I was happy to find some pictures I took from that visit. It's amazing to see the ornate nature we create with ideas of death.

A few things impeded me from keeping up with the drawings for a while. However, instead of seizing completely I've decided to extend the date and simply finish 365 drawings. So all in all I'm back on track as it were. This is an abstract piece I played with using gouache and ink.

It's hard to get away from all of the images of Ebola patients. It's especially sad when you see the kids that have been hit by the disease. This is a composite drawing of a couple of those images.
