This man seemed pretty exhausted and was nodding off. But when he'd open his eyes he had such a warm smile that was directed at no one and everyone. I wonder what he was day dreaming about.

Walking around Chinatown taking pictures for a project last month, I saw this man standing by his shop. He went about selling things as a customer came by, but his eyes seemed to belong elsewhere, like they were viewing a parallel universe.

It's been a while since I've drawn a proper portrait. While this doesn't look exactly like the sitter, I'm happy to have gotten the opportunity to draw him. I call this his alter ego, Tito.

A year ago I started combining the brain and heart to create a singular organ. I'm sure this has been interpreted in one way or another many times, but I've grown attached to the image and its symbolism for my own reasons. Mainly I'm drawn to the balance we struggle with between reason and emotion, logic and madness, love as something magical and intangible while at once being something practical and controlled by chemicals in our brain. I'm still exploring this and am excited to see what bubbles up.

A veces nos sentimos tan frágil como una hormiguita solitaria y es difícil tomar la belleza y amor alrededor de nosotros. No es para uno de afuera juzgar lo que siente esa hormiga pero si es posible, porque no acompañarle durante esa tormenta.

Starting to get carried away with excuses on why I shouldn't publish drawings I've done, I stopped myself today and snapped a picture of this drawing watercolor as it is. As a whole I'm not liking it. But I enjoy elements of it on their own.

Yesterday I heard someone share a composer's advice for breaking a creative road block- give yourself permission to fail. So here it goes again. It's a struggle to remember this but every time I do let go, I feel that much happier. Perhaps nothing comes of this idea as a whole, but maybe a stroke will trigger something else.
